Human Rights - Where Are We Now? Diverse, Human, Equal The Role of the VCS in Equality and Human Rights Thursday 4th December 2008 Reading Town Hall, Blagrave Street, Reading, RG1 1QH Aims of Event • To enable delegates to hear from three leading organisations on the current equalities and human rights agendas. • To explore the role of the Voluntary Community Sector (VCS) in delivering equality and human rights. • To network with colleagues across the region working in the VCS and provide an opportunity for the equality champions, who have recently undertaken equalities training by RAISE, to meet and network further. • An opportunity to take part in an interactive workshop run by the British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) to begin to put principles of human rights work into practice. • To learn more about the significance of the year 2008 in regards to Human Rights: The 60th anniversary of the enactment of the UN declaration of Human Rights and the 10th anniversary of the enactment in the UK. This event will explore more about the history of Human rights, and what is happening today. • It will also provide a significant opportunity for delegates to take part in discussions around the consultation of the current Business Case for an elected and representative South East Equalities Network (SEEN) in the region.
